Interview with a Dweller: The most fun at VGM Con (ESP) Entrevistador: Hablemos de algo que ya se haya publicado. Spring Is Coming With A Candy In The Mouth [spoken] Dear Santa, There are so many things I want. Our Secret Refrain This tree is where we used to share our secret refrain In these treetops is where we spoke, where our whispered words remain When the horn sounded, when the smoke began to rise Stared at you and prayed, I couldn’t make this sacrifice. Interview with a Dweller: The most fun at VGM Con (ENG) Interviewer: Let's talk about something that is already out. The OneUps recently have their “Undertale EP” released at VGMCon, where you also performed with a lot of friends. So before we go into the album, what can you tell me about this incarnation of The OneUps, which is basically, William, Tim, Jared and yourself, plus a plethora of other people coming on stage and playing. Dweller: We call it “The Core 4”, and 20 something years of history, throwing somebody in is going to be a little weird. Not to say that it won't happen, but when it's people from the community, they know what it is. They know what they're getting into and they always want to do it, which is a huge part of, what makes it fun. So Robbie Benson, we've been playing with him. He's from the Super Soul Bros, and he's just a fantastic keyboard player and he jumped in and played with us. And then I asked Becca Michaelson, who played flute for me on my Final Fantasy album that hasn't come out yet. And then I also asked Jess Destramp who she has been a fan since the Super Mario “Sleigh Ride” track came out, that we did as The OneUp Mushrooms in 2002, in December. She said she was 14 years old and she just loved it, and she's been a fan of ours (like a mega fan) ever since. And then a girl named Sierra Hill, she plays with Do a Barrel Roll. Like, there's so many bands! And they all are standing out and these generations of people that are coming through. These kids are doing all kinds of crazy stuff, and they are like, incredible musicians! Like I said I can't even play that well, like I'm just a music mind, I like to produce. But getting up there, I'm not going to be a virtuoso. And a lot of these kids in these bands are, and they're doing all kinds of stuff. They're dedicating themselves to different genres… I just wanted to do something to let people remember. So like some of the people in the audience that have been super fans would feel the the weight of the performance. To think about everybody being in The OneUps… Brentalfloss is also a person that is like an honorary member. That day was his birthday and he wanted to play “Johnny C. Bad” from Final Fantasy VI. So I put together like a 7 minute version and I just asked all the old friends. Hey, would you come up and play a 30 second solo over 2 choruses of this? You know, it's a 12 bars Blues, “Johnny C. Bad”. And they're like, yeah. So to get up there and have the darmock from fricking Steel Samurai and the old Armadillo Tank; we got Chris Taylor from the old Descendants of Erdrick and Super High Tops; and we got Grant Stemage from Metroid Metal… got Tony Dickinson. Like, I mean, just all these people, we had… Alexander Brandon (the composer of Unreal and Unreal Tournament). All these people come up and just get featured, just to do something for fun. And it was the most fun. I'm glad we did that because I've never played with some of these people, like Grant or Tony. Ailsean got up there, that was great. And he's kind of an honorary person too. But everything is just going to kind of go in and out. And the more that we can put the newer generations in, I think that the better it is for everybody because it makes us look cool because we're hanging out with cool kids. And you know, maybe it gives them some cred because they're hanging out with the old guard.
